Labor Day Offers Time To Play, Party, Barbeque And Relax In Honor Of Holiday

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Ah…..it’s Labor Day. For many of us that means we can enjoy a Monday off, free of deadlines, meetings and worries. If you’re part of that lucky crowd, then you’re probably enjoying time together with friends and family. Perhaps your neighbors are coming down for a barbeque. Or maybe you’re having a block party, or you’re having a competitive game of football in your front yard.

Whatever the activity, all American workers are excited to have a day that is dedicated to honoring us and, well, giving us a little break. And in light of that, you might be thinking, “Hmmmm….what could I do to celebrate?” Here are some suggestions that might get you in the mood to enjoy the day, or another holiday in the future:

Have a pitch in. It doesn’t matter if it’s last minute and unorganized. Most of the fun parties are! Call your neighbors and friends. Tell them the time and place, and have them bring a dish to share. You don’t have to be fancy. An even easier option is to collect money and order out for pizza. Just as long as there’s good food and something to drink, the fun will take care of itself.

Set the stage. Clear out the garage and make your home party central. Set up card tables, and provide fun board games like Monolpoly or Dominoes. Set up an impromptu tournament and see who can claim to be this year’s champion. And if you really want to be the pro at throwing parties, check out the garage door screens offered at www.freshairscreens.com. Talk about hostess with the mostess! This handy gadget turns any garage into a comfortable place to throw parties and keep the bugs away.

Mix it up. Don’t stick with the same old crowd you know and love. Have everyone you invite ask at least one additional person to come with them. This will bring new faces to your event. It’s always fun to mix it up a bit and enjoy making new friends.

Be responsible. No matter what, if you have alcoholic beverages at your party, make sure you encourage others to drink responsibly and designate a driver. Or offer your couch and extra floor space for those that need a place to crash in order to “sleep it off.”

Have fun. Hosting get-togethers, no matter how casual, is fun. So make sure you relax enough to enjoy it. Talk with and get to know new faces. Introduce guests to each other, and soak in the experience. Labor Day, just like all other holidays, is a chance to set back and appreciate the happy moments of life. Enjoy!

Presidential Garage Door ScreensWhen it comes to finding political souvenirs and merchandise, just conduct a search online and you have millions of options at your fingertips. But when it comes to finding a way to support your favorite candidate and support your local economy all in one shot, well the task isn’t as easy.

That’s where Marvin Miller comes in. With his established local business ties and ability to “think big,” Miller has combined his existing business with the upcoming presidential elections, and come up with a winner.

A hometown businessman with a successful national business, Miller saw a need in the community and decided to go for it. The product? Presidential candidate banners that can stand alone, or can be displayed as part of his existing line of garage screen doors.

“The fit was perfect,” said Miller. “People in this community want to show their support for their favorite candidate, but often find that common yard signs don’t hold up to the weather, or they’re targets for mischief, if you know what I mean,” he said.

Through his Indianapolis-based business, Kitty Mac Fresh Air Screens®, Miller stimulates the local economy by working with a collection of vendors and workers out of the Indianapolis metropolitan area, as well as from Richmond, Ind.

His primary product, garage screen doors, are retractable mesh screens that can easily be installed within the frame of a garage door or structural opening, This allows for fresh air flow while keeping out bugs, leaves and other debris. It also allows homeowners to enjoy an extra space of their home in a more comfortable environment.

The screens have a unique sewn-in Velcro section that lets owners to hang personalized banners appropriate for special occasions, parties or events. With this new offering of Obama or McCain banners, residents can show their support in a way that allows for optimum viewing.

The banners themselves are available in three different sizes, and can be used on existing garage screen doors, by themselves, or can be purchased in a special package that includes a garage screen door and the banner of choice. The presidential candidate banners are also constructed out of a tightly woven mesh that is porous and allows for a banner-friendly air flow.

“People are really excited about this election,” Miller said. “By offering this timely product, we’re giving consumers a way to express that excitement in a unique and fun way,” he said.

These Indiana-made Obama and McCain banners can be purchased by visiting www.freshairscreens.com, or by calling 317-549-0783.
