You know your living space better than anyone, and you’ve decided it is time to make an adjustment. By adding a Fresh Air Screen®, you know you will increase ventilation, privacy, and comfort and eliminate bug and debris damage. But with all the different options available, how do you decide what screen will work best for your structure?

Manish Ghatpande once said, "Real power is having all the options, but choosing the right one." We want to give you Buyer Power, because we know you are not just investing in a product, you are investing in your home. Here are some tips on purchasing the perfect Fresh Air Screen.

The Right Investment

There are two keys that will turn your purchase into a successful investment. All other questions and answers are usually regarding these two elements.

  • Find the right fit.
  • Find the right model.

Let’s take a closer look at these elements and discuss the best ways to make sure your screen meets these requirements for the best experience. We’ve also included real questions and answers and tips from our production team!

The Right Fit

Size really does matter, and at Fresh Air Screens, Inc. we embrace them all! We offer 8 standard sizes for convenience. These standard sizes are based on common residential garage measurements. Fresh Air Screens are designed to serve many residential and commercial applications, however, so standard sizes may not fit your structure. If the size of the screen needed is not listed as an option, we recommend discussing custom size options with one of our representatives or request a quote if you already know what size you need.

The Right Model

Fresh Air Screens, Inc. is home to the most versatile screen in the world due to the different model variations. These models allow you to get the most out of your screen in whatever setting you use. They can be used in many residential and commercial applications. Easily convert, expand, or enhance your space with non-retractable or retractable screens.

Non-Retractable Screens

Model A and Model B are non-retractable. They do not roll-up and are also sometimes referred to as stationary screens. They are popular in both residential and commercial applications where vehicle traffic is not expected. These screens are often used for porch or patio screens, garage conversions, and business areas that do not serve as warehouses, garages, carports or other similar industries.

Retractable Screens

Model C and Model D roll up and down, very much like shades. The design is as simple and easy as stationary screens, but they provide vehicle access. They are great for residential and commercial garages, warehouses, carports and more!

Retractable screens feature a buckle and strap system, or they can be upgraded with a rope and pull kit accessory for additional convenience. Check out this comparison between the two methods to see how each one works, and which might be better for your home or business.

What Customers Really Want to Know

  1. Do Fresh Air Screens work on sloped, angled, or curved garages?

Garages and other structures that have unique shapes or sizes can usually still be enhanced with a Fresh Air Screen. Contact a representative to discuss specific details to ensure a proper fit.

  1. Do I have to remove a Fresh Air Screen to drive a car in or out of my garage?

If you purchase a 2 zipper or 3 zipper model (model C and Model D respectively), you do not have to remove your screen for vehicle traffic. These models were designed specifically for garages, so not only can your car pass through them, but they won’t interfere with garage mechanisms.

  1. I changed my mind and want to add a rope and pull kit, but I’ve already purchased my screen. Do I need to return the one I have?

No. You can still add a rope and pull kit (or even remove the rope and pull kit) after installation. Buckles and straps, however, are sewn into the screen during production, so they are not sold separately as an accessory.

    Tips from Our Production Experts

Our production team would like to share some helpful tips for preparing a great experience using your screen.

    Thoughts on Measuring

When you are measuring your garage for the right fit, be sure to take the measurements from the outside looking into the garage. This is especially important for structures with custom sizes or structures that are not proportioned the same on both sides.

    Thoughts on Installation

There are things you can do to extend the life of your screen and adhesive loop strips.

    • Make sure the surface of the frame is clean and dry before applying the adhesive loop strip. You can use isopropyl alcohol and water, but avoid harsh chemicals, silicone sprays or cleaners that leave a sticky or oily residue, as this can affect your application.  Make sure the area has dried fully before applying the adhesive loop strip.
    • Allow the tape to fully cure prior to installing your screen. To do this, apply the adhesive loop strip and let it sit for 24 hours, then fasten your screen to it, using the instructions provided. This will allow the adhesion to work at its full strength before adding the weight of the screen.
    • It is common for adhesive loop strips to being lift first at the corners. If you find this to be the case with your screen, try rounding off the corners with a pair of scissors. This will reduce the likelihood of the corners catching and lifting.
    • Some areas that are exposed to extreme temperatures or weather conditions may experience some difficulty with maintaining proper adhesion. It is okay to apply roofing nails, marine screws, or similar binding to the adhesive loop strip. If you choose this option, be sure to avoid puncturing the screen itself with sharp points or edges.
